Group B opponents - Netherlands, Germany, Portugal
Past Records in
Euro
Denmark had an impressive Euro 1964, where they finished
fourth in the competition.
In 1984, they were called “Danish Dynamite”, but still
they were unable to proceed to the final of Euro losing in the semis to Spain.
At Euro 1988, success was expected for the Danish side,
but they lost all their group games to be eliminated from the competition.
Euro 1992 proved to be lucky for Denmark. They were not
able to qualify for that Euro placed just below Yugoslovakia. But due to the
Yugoslov war, Yugoslovakia were excluded from the competition and hence Denmark
got through to the finals. The defensive tactics of the manager won them the
championship beating Germany in the final. It was their first international
trophy.
However, they
could not defend the title in 1996 European championship, producing a
lackluster performance to be eliminated in the group stage.
Euro 2000 was again a disappointment for the Danish side
as they were unable to repeat the performance of the qualifiers. They lost all
3 group games to be eliminated.
The Euro 2004 will also be remembered for an incident in
the game with Italy, where Italian star Francesco Totti was caught on camera
spitting on Danish player Christian Poulsen; and then subsequently the joint
elimination of Italy by Denmark and Sweden in the last group stage match, when
the two teams drew 2–2 following a Swedish goal in the 89th minute, making for
the exact and famous result that would see the Italians eliminated.
Euro 2008
Denmark failed to qualify for Euro 2008, which got the
team heavily criticized.
Euro 2012

of their group-mates Portugal. They had 6 wins out of the eight games played.

Man To Watch
Christian Dannemann Eriksen is a young player and is one of
the hottest prospects in this Euro. Though not much experienced, he can prove
himself as a playmaker in the heart of Danish midfield. Emerging through the
Ajax youth academy, he is already compared to the likes of Wesley Sneijder and Rafael
van der Vaart. He became the youngest Danish player ever to
score a goal in European qualification on June 24, 2011, scoring against
Iceland. He was named Danish Football Player of the Year on November 7,
2011.
